Ep 4.5 "First of His Name"
QUICKLOOK:
Tommen is crowned, Daenerys decides to rule (but not Westeros), and
Sansa finds herself in a new den of wolves.
King Tommen is officially being cornonated. He and Margeary steal glances at one
another during the ceremony until Cersei notices. She finds Margaery and confides in her that she knew Joffrey
was evil and the things she did shocked him, but he was her first born and she
loved him. Cersei says Tommen
needs strong people around to guide him at being a good king. She asks if Margaery still wants to be
queen. Margaery says she has
hardly thought about it, but it would be a great honor. They both agree to talk to their
fathers about the match. Then
Margaery tells Cersei that if she marries Loras and Margaery marries Tommen,
she won’t know whether to call her sister or mother. Ouch…
Ser Jorah breaks the news of Joffrey’s death to
Daenerys. Daario Naharis informs
her that he has taken the Mereenese navy.
She asks why he did this when she didn’t ask him too and he says he
heard she likes ships. Dany
wonders if the ships can carry enough soldiers to storm Kings Landing. Ser Jorah tells her it will carry about
nine to ten thousand, but the Lannisters will have more men and ten thousand
soldiers will not be enough to take the kingdom. Ser Barristan seems to think that the Lannister troops are
scattered and tired and now their king is dead. He says those loyal to the Targaryens will raise their
banners. Jorah says they will
raise their banners for whoever is winning. He then tells her disturbing news from Yunkai. The masters have taken back the city
and re-enslaved all of the free men who stayed behind. They have also sworn to take revenge
against Dany, and in Astapor a man named Cleon has declared himself ruler. Dany asks everyone in the room but
Jorah to leave. She asks him how
she can rule seven kingdoms if she can’t even control Slavers Bay. He tells her she is a Targaryen but she
feels she needs to be more than that.
She will not sale for Westeros, she will stay in Mereen and “do what
Queen’s do, rule”.
Sansa and Petyr are almost to the Eyrie. They must take a narrow passageway that
leads to the Bloody Gate. This is
the only route to the Eyrie and explains why it is so impenetrable. An army could only fit three men across
and would be slaughtered from up above before they could even make it to the
Bloody Gate. He announces Sansa as
his niece Alayne to the guards as the gate. They let him pass once they realize who he is. Young Robin and crazy Lysa are glad to
have him back. Lysa knows who
Sansa is and welcomes her. She
tells Sansa that no one can know who she really is or they will all be in
danger. Robin tells Sansa about
how he wanted to “make the baby Lannister man fly”, but mommy wouldn’t let him. Sansa asks how that would be possible
and he shows her the Moon Door.
Lysa asks if Tyrion forced himself on Sansa after they were wed, but she
explains that Tyrion didn’t want to marry her and they were never
together. Robin takes her off to
her chambers and Petyr tells her he will come to her soon. As soon as the children are gone, Lysa
jumps him. She wants them to get
married that night, but he wants to wait until the lords of the Vale can
attend. She talks about the time
they slept together years ago, and
how she killed her husband when he asked her to, and how he was the one that
had her send the letter to Cat proclaiming the Lannisters killed her husband. (Hold on a sec, what?!?) He kisses her to shut her up. Because she is seriously stupid for
saying all that without knowing who could be around, and she’s crazy. It looks like Petyr’s been responsible
for a lot of deaths lately. He
tells her she shouldn’t speak of such things and he agrees to marry her that
night. He asks to go change, but
she opens the door and brings in the High Septon to marry them right then and
there. She warns him that she will
scream with passion once she gets him in the bedroom, which is exactly what she
does and every poor soul within a couple of miles from the Eyrie can hear her.
Tywin and Cersei decide that Tommen and Margaery will get
married in a fortnight and then Cersei will marry Loras after that. There will be no grand feast as there
was at the last wedding. Lord
Tywin tells Cersei they need the Tyrell’s gold and must form an alliance with
them. The Lannister gold mines
dried up 3 years ago and the crown owes the Iron Bank of Braavos a lot of
money. It’s apparently one bank
you don’t want to owe money to.
They are not people to be messed with so the Lannisters must pay it
back. Cersei says she understands
what is good for the family, but she doesn’t think her brothers do. Tywin tells her that as a judge he
should not talk to Cersei about Tyrion’s trial. Cersei reminds him that he shunned Jaime for not doing what
he asked, so what will he do to Tyrion for allegedly messing with their hold on
the crown.
Arya is laying by the Hound listing out the names of all of
her enemies. He asks her what in
the seven hells she’s doing. She
tells him she must say the names of all the people she plans to kill before she
goes to sleep. At the mention of
his brother, the Mountain, he tells her if they run into him perhaps they can
cross him off of both their lists.
He tells her to continue and be done with it. She tells him she only has one more name to go, the Hound.
Lysa gives Sansa lemon cakes and talks of Petyr’s devotion
to her. She wants to know why
Petyr feels responsible for Sansa.
Sansa says perhaps it is because their families were so close. Lysa accuses Sansa of thinking that
Petyr loved her mother and gets angry over what Brandyn Stark did to
Petyr. She says Catelyn never
loved him, but Petyr is risking his life for her daughter. She accuses Sansa of sleeping with
Petyr and being pregnant. In
desperation, poor Sansa says that Petyr calls her a stupid girl with stupid
dreams. Finally Lysa consoles her and tells her that she will be a widow soon
and then she can marry Robin and become Lady of the Vale.
Brienne and Pod are making their way down the
kingsroad. Pod has some trouble
with his horse. Brienne is still
not too keen on the idea of a companion. She releases Pod from being her
squire, but he refuses to leave her.
The Hound wakes up and cant find Arya anywhere. She is
practicing her water dancing with Needle as Syrio Forel taught her. The Hound thinks it’s ridiculous and
makes fun of Syrio. He asks where
Syrio is now and she tells him Meryn Trant killed him. The Hound finds this incredibly funny,
as he doesn’t think Meryn Trant is a good fighter, so if he killed Syrio then
how could he have been the greatest swordsman in Braavos. Arya tells him that Syrio didn’t have a
sword. She tries to stab the
Hound, but her sword won’t go through his stomach. He hits her and she falls to the ground. He tells her that Syrio died because
Meryn Trant had metal armor and a big sword.
Cersei visits Oberyn.
They talk about his eight daughters. Oberyn asks if she really believes that Tyrion murdered her
son and she says yes. She says she
hasn’t seen her daughter for a year.
He tells her the last time he saw her she was swimming with his
daughters in the Water Gardens. Cersei
says she wants to believe Myrcella is happy and Oberyn tries to assure her by
saying they don’t hurt little girls in Dorne. Cersei says they hurt little girls everywhere. Cersei had a boat built for Myrcella
for her last nameday and wants Oberyn to sail it back to Dorne and give it to
Myrcella and tell her that her mother misses her very much. She even manages to have a glimpse of a
tear in her eye as she leaves Oberyn.
Likely to make him feel guilty and vote against Tyrion in his trial.
It looks as though Brienne is going to have to teach Pod a
lot of new skills. He doesn’t know
that you skin a rabbit before you cook it. He ends up burning the rabbit to her dismay, while she was
out collecting firewood. She
starts to remove her armor and he jumps to help her, but she says she is fine
without him. She asks if he ever
came close to battle with Lord Tyrion and he tells her how he killed a man of
the kingsguard who tried to kill Tyrion during the Battle of Blackwater. She asks how and he says he shoved a
spear through his head. She
decides to let him help her remove her armor.
At Craster’s keep the mutaneers led by Tanner are being
their usual sunny selves. Locke
is scouting for the black brothers. Bran, Jojen and Meera are tied up in a
hut. Jojen tells Bran that he must
not let the mutaneers stop him from his task. He tells Bran that he is somewhere else far away from there,
by a great weirwood tree. He says he
an his sister are just there to guide him. He must make it.
Locke reports back to Jon.
He tells him there are eleven men, most of who are drunk and don’t seem
to have a care in the world. He also
tells Jon they should stay away from a certain hut because there are dogs they
don’t want to disturb. Tanner and
a few others come to question Bran and his companions. They string up Meera. Jojen tells them he will help them if
they let his sister go. He says he
has the second sight and can see things that haven’t happened yet. Tanner
doesn’t believe him. Jojen tells
him he saw his body die tonight, saw him burning. Then, Jon and his brother’s attack. Locke goes into the hut where Bran and
his friends are being held. Locke
asks Bran if he is Jon Snows brother.
At first Bran doesn’t say, but Locke cuts his leg and knows he is Bran
when he doesn’t scream. Bran tries
to yell for Jon, but Locke tells him he will hurt his friends if he doesn’t
shut up. As Locke takes Bran’s
body away, he skinchanges into Hodor.
Hodor breaks free of his chains and snaps Locke’s neck. Once Locke is dead he goes back into
his body. Hodor sees the blood on
his hands and doesn’t understand what he did. Bran gets him to cut him and the others free. Bran sees Jon and calls for him, but
Jojen tells Bran that Jon won’t let him go North if he finds him so they must
leave and let him return to Castle Black.
Bran tells Hodor to free Summer and then they will be on their way. Jon finds Tanner and they fight. Tanner almost gets the best of Jon
until one of Craster’s wives stabs him in the back. He goes after her giving Jon the chance to thrust his sword
into Tanners head. Once they are
counting all of the casualties, they notice there are only ten mutaneers and
wonder where the missing one is.
He is running through the woods when he notices Ghost has been let out
of his cage. He should’ve kept
running because Ghost gets him.
Ghost returns to Jon and Jon tells him how much he’s missed him. His men ask what to do with all of
Crasters wives. He thinks they
should come back with the men so they can be safe from the wildlings, but they
say they are tired of men beating them and want to make their own way, but the
men are more than welcome to burn down Crasters Keep and all the dead with
it. The women are happy to see it go.
End credits…
As much as I would love for Daenerys to sale to Westeros,
she is right. It is not time. She must learn to rule. How can the people of the seven
kingdoms trust her if she doesn’t follow through with what she started in
Astapor and Yunkai. Plus, her
dragons aren’t big enough yet and the only “classy” way for a Targaryen to
invade Westeros is riding on the wings of a dragon. If the masters have taken
over will she have another war on her hands soon?
Once again the Starks got within a few yards of each other
without knowing. It seems as
though they must be kept separate for now with everyone thinking Bran and
Rickon are dead and not knowing where Sansa and Arya are.
How lucky is Sansa to look so much like her mother that
creepy Petyr Baelish rescued her from Kings Landing and took her to her aunt
who is envious of Cat and what she had.
Sansa’s still surrounded by crazies, just in a different part of the
country.
Luckily Jon got Ghost back and killed the mutaneers so
that’s a happy ending. Now he
needs to get his but back to Castle Black before Mance Rayder gets there first.
It looks like we start Tyrion’s trial next week. What do you think, will he be found
guilty or innocent?
Until next time...
